Greetings from Kenya

Good Mornning All, We are here, at the orphanage. It is beautiful, peaceful and touching. We were welcomed by the 100 or so children who live here, ages 3-13. They sang and danced to welcome us and it was amazing. This country is picturesque and full of new and different plants and flowers and trees. It is sunny and in the mid 70s, perfect weather. We are in dorm like rooms, bunkbed. I have slept well.

We set up all of our equipment last night and will start eye exams on the staff this morning and the children after lunch. No one here wears glasses and there is a stigma about wearing glasses, so it will be interesting to see what we find. We have 60 cases of disease that were referred to us in a village 1.5 hours from here that we will examine on Wednesday.

All is going well, despite extreemly cold showers this morning and a lovely critter (small lizard) in Dr. Fitzgerald's bunk last night! We are enjoying meeting the Kenyans. They are very much about relationships and conversation and are more formal than us Americans. Life is simple here but cozy.

Have a great day!

Ellen
